Favor Large National and Local Chain Stores Over Small Stores
Large stores and chains do a better job of policing suppliers, than small shops can possibly do. They make sure toys meet the current Safety Regulations and are quick to pull recalled toys off the shelves. This makes it easier for you.
Favor Known Brands - Larger brands do a super job designing and producing toys to meet or exceed Toy Safety Standards. You don't have to worry about all the technical details- that's the company's job.
I live in New York. There are many small stores that carry very cheap toys. These are the stores you want to avoid ...especially for children under 3.
Do Follow The Age Shown On Package! Many parents feel their children are ahead of the curve and buy toys tested safe for older children. Although your child may be advanced, safety hazards may be present which your child is not equipped to handle.

AFTER BUYING OR RECEIVING A TOY
Check For Safety Warnings On Package
Throw Away ALL Packaging Materials
Show Your Child How To Use The Toy Properly
Inspect Toys Periodically and Discard Broken/Damaged Toys
CPSC Most Hazardous List:
Pompoms, balloons (un inflated/broken), marbles, games with balls
Toy Storage- A Place For Everything
Please have someplace to put toys and make sure children are trained to store their toys. Toys are a major hazard to adults, when left strewn about.
Receiving Used Toys: If you can't verify the age a toy was Recommended for, then please DON'T give it to your child. Better be safe than sorry!
